President Maithripala Sirisena of Sri Lanka Meets with Wang Yi

On July 8, 2016 local time, President Maithripala Sirisena of Sri Lanka met in Colombo with Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who was paying an official visit to the country.

Wang Yi conveyed President Xi Jinping's warm greetings to Maithripala Sirisena. Wang Yi said that the two countries have conducted close high-level exchanges in recent years, constantly injecting strong impetus for the development of bilateral relations. Bilateral cooperation in various fields has yielded fruitful results. China is willing to work with Sri Lanka to well implement the important consensus reached by both leaders, strengthen high-level exchanges, enhance political mutual trust and give play to advantages of Sri Lanka's geographical location and the economic complementarity of both countries. The two countries should, along the direction of joint construction of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, enhance practical cooperation in various fields, advance the construction of large-scale projects, and strengthen coordination and collaboration on international and regional issues, so as to jointly promote China-Sri Lanka strategic cooperative partnership to continuously move forward.

Maithripala Sirisena said that both countries enjoy profound traditional friendship as well as productive practical cooperation. Devoted to enhancing its friendship with China, the Sri Lankan government adheres to the One-China policy and stands ready to, together with China, maintain high-level exchanges and strengthen communication between political parties. The Sri Lankan side is ready to advance bilateral practical cooperation in such areas as trade, economy and investment to reach a new level by jointly building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road with China.
