Li Keqiang Meets with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon of UN

On the afternoon of July 8, 2016, Premier Li Keqiang met with visiting Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon of the United Nations (UN).

Li Keqiang expressed that China is always committed to safeguarding the international system with the UN at the core and upholding the purpose and principles of the UN Charter. China will actively promote peaceful dispute settlement through dialogue and negotiation, deeply engage in cooperation to address climate change and other global challenges and contribute to world peace and development.

Li Keqiang pointed out that as the largest developing country, China attaches importance to integrating its own development strategies with the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to boost common development.

Li Keqiang spoke highly of Ban Ki-moon's contribution to facilitating China-UN relationship and cooperation, and stressed that China firmly supports the work of the UN, safeguards UN's authority and promotes UN causes. China is willing to work with all sides to promote world peace, stability, development and prosperity.

Ban Ki-moon expressed sympathies over the flood striking certain regions in southern China. He believes that the Chinese people will certainly overcome the disaster under the strong leadership of the Chinese government. The UN appreciates China's contribution to preventing and mitigating disasters across the world as well as the cause of sustainable development and expects China to continue to play a significant role in realizing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and tackling climate change as well as other global challenges.
