Wang Yi: Arbitration Case Should Be Boycotted for Violation of Spirit of Rule of Law
2016/07/07

On July 7, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon of the United Nations (UN) jointly met the press at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing.

Wang Yi expressed that it is consistent stance of the Chinese government to peacefully resolve relevant disputes over the South China Sea issue through dialogues. On the contrary, any move that refuses dialogue and unilaterally seeks so-called mandatory arbitration without the consent of the other party is in violation of the spirit of rule of law. The act, which distorts the principle of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, will not contribute to the peaceful resolution of the dispute and will instead further aggravate tension. Such move should be jointly resisted by all countries and peoples supporting the justice.
