Wang Yi Holds Talks with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon of UN

On July 7, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon of the United Nations (UN).

Wang Yi expressed that China attaches importance to and welcomes Mr. Secretary-General's visit to China again, and fully appreciates your unremitting efforts to promote UN causes in the past ten years. President Xi Jinping visited the UN and attended the series of summits marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the UN last year, which has achieved complete success and elevated China-UN cooperation to the best level in history. This marks a new chapter in the relationship between the two sides. China is actively boosting the implementation of various outcomes achieved from the series of summits and will continue to fulfill its various commitments in peacekeeping, development and other areas, so as to make due contributions to world peace and global development.

Ban Ki-moon noted that this is his 10th visit to China during the tenure as the UN Secretary-General, which is almost as many as his visits to his motherland. Ban Ki-moon thanked China's strong support to him and UN works over the years. China's contributions and supports are of great importance to UN works and world peace and development. President Xi Jinping visited the UN General Assembly last year, uplifting bilateral cooperation to a new level. The UN highly appreciates China's sacrifice and contributions to the UN peacekeeping missions and welcomes China's commitment to multi-lateralism. The UN hopes to further enhance cooperation with China in such areas as peacekeeping, tackling climate change and sustainable development. The UN also expects China to play a more important leading role in international peace and development.

Both sides also exchanged views on China-UN cooperation, the situation on the Korean Peninsula, hotspot issues in Syria, Afghanistan and Africa as well as other topics.
