Yang Jiechi Holds Telephone Talks with Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Philip Hammond of the UK

On July 6, 2016, State Councilor Yang Jiechi held telephone talks at request with Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Philip Hammond of the UK.

Yang Jiechi expressed that under current situation, both China and the UK should make efforts hand in hand to continuously promote bilateral relations and practical cooperation in various fields. At present, global economic recovery is facing increasing uncertainties. Cooperation between China and the UK, as major world economies, plays a key role in boosting economic growth in the region and the world. China is willing to make joint efforts with the UK to ensure the G20 Hangzhou Summit this year to achieve complete success, so as to inject new impetus for world economic development and global economic governance.

Philip Hammond introduced relevant situation of the UK referendum on EU membership, and expressed that the UK is ready to continuously and actively devote itself to developing relations with China, constantly deepen bilateral cooperation in various areas and conduct close cooperation with China to jointly make the G20 Hangzhou Summit a success.

Yang Jiechi expressed that both China and the UK should jointly safeguard the development momentum of bilateral relations, and make positive contributions to peace and prosperity in Asia, Europe as well as the world.
