2016/07/06

On July 6, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held telephone talks at request with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif of Iran, exchanging views on China-Iran relations and the implementation of Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iranian nuclear issue.

Wang Yi expressed that President Xi Jinping paid a successful state visit to Iran this January, during which both countries established a comprehensive strategic partnership. Both sides have achieved positive progress in the implementation of the consensus reached by both heads of state.

Wang Yi noted that since the JCPOA on Iranian nuclear issue was reached, Iran and the six countries have actively fulfilled their commitments and the JCPOA is under sound implementation in general. It is hoped that all sides could continue to adhere to responsible attitudes, constantly enhance mutual trust, well implement the UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and speed up the modification of the heavy water reactor in Arak. China will continue to play a constructive role to this end.

Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed that Iran attaches high importance to the outcomes achieved during President Xi Jinping's visit to Iran, and stands ready to, together with China, earnestly implement the consensus reached by both heads of state. Speaking highly of China's efforts in advancing the modification of the Arak heavy water reactor, the Iranian side is willing to intensify cooperation with China and promote the JCPOA implementation.
