On the afternoon of July 4, 2016, Premier Li Keqiang held talks at the Great Hall of the People with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras of Greece, who was paying an official visit to China.

Li Keqiang expressed that as countries with ancient civilizations, China and Greece enjoy long-standing history and glorious culture. Both countries enjoy profound traditional friendship and rapid development of practical cooperation, and non-governmental friendship is deep-rooted in the hearts of the two peoples. Standing at the new beginning of the second decade of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, China is willing to, together with Greece, respect each other, treat each other as equals, enhance high-level exchanges, deepen political mutual trust, expand practical cooperation, and further enrich the connotation of China-Greece relations, so as to better realize mutual benefit and win-win results.

Li Keqiang pointed out that so far, Greece has completed approval procedures of the franchising agreement of the Piraeus Port Authority project between China and Greece, laying a solid foundation for the advancement of bilateral cooperation. We are willing to make joint efforts with Greece to build the Piraeus Port into a top-level port and logistics center in the Mediterranean Sea, and make it a major gateway on the China-Europe Land-Sea Express Route and for the Asia-Europe connectivity, so that the two peoples can practically benefit from bilateral cooperation. It is also hoped that the Greek government can continuously provide assistance and support for the smooth launch of related cooperation, so as to promote constant and balanced growth of bilateral trade. The two sides should well use the abundant people-to-people and cultural resources of both countries, and conduct close communication in such areas as culture, education, science and technology as well as tourism.

Li Keqiang stressed that China pays great attention to changes in the situation in Europe. We firmly support the integration of Europe and have always believed that a prosperous and stable European Union (EU) is in the interests of all sides. We expect the upcoming China-EU Leaders' Meeting to send positive signals of consolidating strategic mutual trust, strengthening practical cooperation and jointly promoting facilitation and liberalization of trade and investment between China and the EU. China welcomes Greece to continuously play its positive role in the development of China-EU relations.

Alexis Tsipras expressed that China is indeed a friend in need as well as a sincere cooperative partner of Greece. Greece thanks China for supporting the country to overcome economic difficulties. The development strategies of both countries fit with each other and their cooperation has bright prospects. Greece stands ready to deepen bilateral cooperation in various fields in the spirit of mutual trust and respect. The Piraeus Port project is an important strategic cooperation project between the two countries. The Greek side will make joint efforts with China to build it into a gateway for Chinese investment and goods to enter Europe, construct supporting logistics centers and industrial technology zones, promote the upgrading of railways in Central and Eastern European region, and vigorously advance economic and trade cooperation between the two countries as well as EU and China. Greece is ready to take the construction of the leading project of Piraeus Port as an opportunity to push for new progress in bilateral cooperation in such areas as shipbuilding, finance, scientific and technological innovation, food trade, tourism, culture and education, play the role as a bridge in EU-China cooperation, and actively promote the development of EU-China relations.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional topics of common interest.

Before the talks, Li Keqiang held a welcome ceremony for Alexis Tsipras at the square outside the East Gate of the Great Hall of the People. Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Wang Qinmin and others were present.
