The 9th Meeting of China-Viet Nam Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation Held

On June 27, 2016 local time, the 9th meeting of China-Viet Nam Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation was held in Hanoi. State Councilor Yang Jiechi and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh of Viet Nam co-chaired the meeting.

Yang Jiechi expressed that with personal concern and guidance of leaders of the two parties and both countries, China-Viet Nam relations have continuously developed in a positive direction since last year, with increasingly deepening communication as well as cooperation in various fields. We should earnestly implement the consensus reached between leaders, well plan bilateral exchanges, coordinate all departments and regions to continuously advance cooperation in various fields, and properly handle relevant differences and problems at the same time, so as to jointly push forward China-Viet Nam comprehensive strategic partnership in steady and better manners.

Pham Binh Minh expressed that the relationship between the two countries has maintained a positive momentum of development recently. Leaders of the two parties and the two countries have conducted close exchanges, reaching important consensus on boosting the sustained, healthy and stable development of bilateral relations, and bilateral cooperation in various fields has achieved constant progress. It is believed that the meeting will facilitate both countries to make contributions to cooperation in such areas as politics, economy and trade, culture and society.

Both sides agreed that they should continue to maintain close high-level exchanges between the two parties and countries, strengthen high-level strategic communication, timely exchange views on major issues of bilateral relations and continue to enhance exchanges and cooperation between both parties, diplomatic departments and armies as well as cooperation in law enforcement and security.

The two sides agreed to accelerate the docking of both development strategies, jointly boost the construction of projects within frameworks of the "Belt and Road" initiative and the "Two Corridors, One Circle" development plan, and continue to expand and deepen cooperation in such fields as economy, trade, investment, agriculture, transportation, culture, education, health, tourism and youth. Both sides decide to further enhance communication and cooperation in land boarder and among provinces in border regions.

Both sides agreed to well utilize current bilateral inter-governmental mechanisms, and adhere to well managing maritime situation through friendly consultation and negotiation, so as to safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea. Both sides will actively study and discuss joint maritime development, effectively implement agreed cooperation projects and continue to explore new areas of cooperation.

After the meeting, the two sides jointly attended the signing ceremony of the minutes of the meeting and relevant bilateral cooperation documents.
