Zhang Dejiang Meets with Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany
2016/06/13

On June 13, 2016, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Zhang Dejiang met at the Great Hall of the People with Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany.

Zhang Dejiang said that since President Xi Jinping's visit to Germany in 2014 and the establishment of all-round strategic partnership between the two countries, both sides have enjoyed sound development in bilateral relations and yielded fruitful results in cooperation in various fields. Today, the 4th round of China-Germany inter-governmental consultation has achieved complete success and bilateral cooperation will embrace greater development. In recent years, the regular communication mechanism between the NPC and the German Bundestag has yielded fruitful results, and exchanges between special committees and senator friendly groups have become increasingly active. Legislative bodies of the two countries should strengthen communication and dialogues, enhance mutual understanding, and draw on useful experience on legislation, supervision and other aspects from each other, so as to build a stable and sound legal environment for deepening and expanding bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation.

Angela Merkel said that Germany-China relations enjoy smooth development. Germany is willing to enhance exchanges between the German Bundestag and the NPC, and facilitate friendly non-governmental exchanges between the two countries.

Wang Chen attended the meeting.
