Yang Jiechi Meets with President Jean-Claude Juncker of the European Commission

On June 9, 2016 local time, State Councilor Yang Jiechi met in Brussels with President Jean-Claude Juncker of the European Commission.

Yang Jiechi conveyed warm greetings from President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang to Jean-Claude Juncker. Yang Jiechi said that during President Xi Jinping's visit to EU headquarters in 2014, both sides reached important consensus on forging four major China-EU partnerships featuring peace, growth, reform and civilization, and identified the direction of China-EU relations. Last year, both sides reached consensus on strengthening the docking of development strategies of China and EU, adding new impetus to the construction of the four major partnerships. China is willing to, together with the EU, well implement the consensus reached by both leaders, strengthen communication and cooperation in various fields such as politics, economy and trade, as well as people-to-people and cultural exchanges, so as to promote the continuous and in-depth development of China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership. At present, both sides should strengthen communication and coordination, ensure the success of the forthcoming 18th China-EU Leaders' Meeting and jointly push for positive results from the G20 Hangzhou Summit.

Jean-Claude Juncker said that the EU appreciates China's development achievements, and attaches great importance to developing EU-China comprehensive strategic partnership. The EU expects the 18th EU-China Leaders' Meeting to provide new opportunities and impetus for the development of EU-China relations. The EU is willing to make contributions to the success of the G20 Hangzhou Summit.

On June 10, Yang Jiechi held the 6th round of China-EU High-level Strategic Dialogue at the EU headquarters with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini. Both sides exchanged in-depth views and reached broad consensus on the development of China-EU relations, preparation work for the leaders' meeting, practical cooperation in various fields between the two sides and a series of international and regional topics.
