2016/06/07

On June 7, 2016, Vice Premier Wang Yang, State Councilor Yang Jiechi, Secretary of State John Kerry and Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew of the US, who were attending the eighth round of China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue, together met with entrepreneurs from China and the US at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

Focusing on the theme of “improving the supply of commodities and services, ensuring a life with high-quality”, entrepreneurs from the two countries shared their opinions. They expressed their willingness to provide products and services with higher-quality for consumers by increasing technology investment and expanding cooperation in trade and investment. They also expected that governmental departments of both countries can enhance communication and coordination on policies, promote openness and reduce barriers so as to create a better business environment for enterprises of the two countries.

Wang Yang said that the accelerated and expanded China-US investment cooperation indicates increasingly deeper bilateral relations and brighter prospects for bilateral cooperation. Both governments should further pave the way for and safeguard investment cooperation between the two sides. China is committed to protecting intellectual property rights, expanding market access, improving transparency of policies and regulations and further building a fair, transparent and predictable business environment. One important task at present is to implement the consensus between the two heads of state and push forward negotiations on a China-US bilateral investment agreement so as to reach a high-level agreement featuring mutual benefit and win-win results at an early date and to create a more favorable environment for the investment cooperation between enterprises of the two countries.

Yang Jiechi said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the US, economic and trade cooperation has brought more job opportunities as well as commodities and services with low price and high quality for the two peoples, effectively promoting the development of overall China-US relations. It is hoped that entrepreneurs from both countries can make persistent efforts to constantly open up new areas of cooperation and create new growth points for cooperation in order to provide consumers with more and better products and services and make contributions to enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples.

John Kerry and Jacob Lew said that US-China economic, trade and investment cooperation has made significant contributions to the two countries’ economic growth and improvement of people’s lives. The US welcomes Chinese enterprises to make investments in the country and is willing to expand investment in China by taking opportunities created by China’s supply-side structural reform so as to boost both economic growth and improve people’s well-being.
