2016/06/07

On June 7, 2016, State Councilor Yang Jiechi and Secretary of State John Kerry of the US jointly attended in Beijing the 2nd China-US Summit on Climate-Smart/Low-Carbon Cities.

Yang Jiechi said in his speech that the Chinese government regards green, low-carbon and cyclic development as an important content of ecological civilization construction, and actively explores low-carbon development experience during the process of urbanization. It is of great significance for both sides to exchange views on low-carbon development practice, and deepen low-carbon development partnership between both provinces/states and cities. It is hoped that cities of both countries can undertake dominant roles in the construction of low-carbon development, and carry out more practical cooperation, so as to let the achievements of low-carbon development benefit more people of the two countries and around the world.

John Kerry expressed that the US and China should enhance low-carbon development cooperation, which is conducive to tackling climate change for the world and promoting sustainable development of both economies.

High-level representatives from relevant departments and over 50 cities of China and the US attended the meeting.
