Yang Jiechi Meets with Guests from ROK and Japan
2016/04/28

On April 28, 2016, State Councilor Yang Jiechi met at the Great Hall of the People with former Prime Minister Goh Kun of the Republic of Korea (ROK) as well as General Council Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party and former Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Toshihiro Nikai of Japan, who were in China to attend the first China-Japan-ROK public diplomacy forum and the 2016 international forum on China-Japan-ROK cooperation.

Yang Jiechi wished the forum a great success, and said that the relations of China, Japan and the ROK are of great significance to the peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region and around the globe. Last year, the mechanism of trilateral leaders' meeting was restarted following a suspension of three and a half years, marking that the trilateral cooperation has regained its momentum. The opening of this forum is one of the specific measures to implement the outcomes of the meeting. China is willing to work with the ROK and Japan to implement the consensus reached at the leaders' meeting, adhere to the idea of "facing squarely to the history and looking to the future", enhance political mutual trust, properly handle historical and other sensitive issues, strengthen economic and trade cooperation, boost economic integration, and expand cultural and people-to-people exchanges, so as to promote a healthy, stable and sustainable development of trilateral cooperation and make greater contribution to the rejuvenation of Asia as a whole.

Goh Kun and Toshihiro Nikai expressed that the opening of this forum will be conducive to boosting exchanges and cooperation among the three countries. As the economies of the three countries are closely connected and their cultures are linked, the ROK and Japan are willing to make joint efforts with China to promote further development of trilateral relations.
