Yang Jiechi Holds Talks with Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn of Luxembourg

On April 15, 2016, State Councilor Yang Jiechi met in Luxembourg with Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn of Luxembourg.

Yang Jiechi said that China-Luxembourg relations are regarded as a model of harmonious co-existence between countries with different systems. The two countries enjoy solid foundation in political relations and fruitful economic and trade cooperation. China attaches importance to China-Luxembourg relations, and is ready to join efforts with Luxembourg to push bilateral relations for comprehensive and sound development. China is willing to, together with Luxembourg, reinforce high-level exchanges, and forge a higher level of political mutual trust. Both sides should seize opportunities to comprehensively upgrade bilateral cooperation, actively foster new growth points in bilateral practical cooperation in high-tech, cross-border e-commerce and other fields, and actively explore the combination of China's Belt and Road initiative with Luxembourg's development strategies and advantages in industry and policy while intensifying cooperation in the Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), so as to push forward infrastructure connectivity and economic development in Asia. China encourages and supports facilitation of bilateral personnel exchanges and close people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Both sides should further beef up coordination and cooperation in the UN Security Council and other international affairs.

Jean Asselborn expressed that Luxembourg and China enjoy sound relations. In recent years, the two countries have witnessed rapid growth in economic and trade cooperation with fruitful results and maintained sound cooperation in major international affairs. Luxembourg supports the internationalization of the RMB, and is the first European country that applies for a membership of the AIIB. China is Luxembourg's second largest trading partner outside the EU while Luxembourg is China's largest investment destination in Europe. Both sides enjoy great potential in further expanding economic and trade cooperation. Luxembourg expects a closer and better relationship with China and hopes to strengthen bilateral high-level exchanges and deepen bilateral cooperation in finance, air-freight service and other fields. Luxembourg welcomes more Chinese tourists to travel in the country, and is willing to provide Chinese enterprises with more convenience in their investment in Luxembourg.
