Yang Jiechi Visits Luxembourg

On April 15, 2016, Grand Duke Henri and Prime Minister Xavier Bettel of Luxembourg respectively met with State Councilor Yang Jiechi, who was paying a visit to Luxembourg.

Henri said the relations between Luxembourg and China enjoy a time-honored history and have gained considerable progress in recent years. He was deeply impressed by China's great development during each of his several visits to China. Luxembourg and China have conducted fruitful cooperation in finance, air cargo and other fields. It is hoped that the bilateral practical cooperation will continuously make new progress.

Xavier Bettel said that Luxembourg and China trust each other and are genuine cooperative partners. Luxembourg is very honored to be the first European country that has applied to join the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), and is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in economy and trade, finance, transportation and other fields, and continually deepen the friendly and cooperative relations with China on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit.

Yang Jiechi said that Luxembourg is a key and reliable cooperative partner of China in the European Union (EU), and the two countries have insisted on mutual respect, mutual trust and equal treatment over the years. In recent years, China and Luxembourg have witnessed substantial development in economic and trade relations. China is willing to strengthen high-level exchanges with Luxembourg, further expand and deepen cooperation in such fields as finance, air cargo, iron and steel and other fields, constantly tap the potential of trade growth and expand two-way investment, so as to achieve win-win cooperation. China supports the two countries to deepen exchanges and cooperation in people-to-people and cultural engagement, tourism and other fields, and hopes that both sides will continue to maintain good communication and coordination in major international affairs.

On the same day, Yang Jiechi also respectively met with President of Chamber of Deputies Mars di Bartolomeo of Luxembourg and held talks with Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn of Luxembourg.
