President Francois Hollande of France Meets with Yang Jiechi

On April 13, 2016, President Francois Hollande of France met with State Councilor Yang Jiechi at the Élysée Palace in Paris.

Francois Hollande said that France highly values its relations with China. Sharing common goals and interests with China in tackling climate change, counter-terrorism, security, financial stability and other major issues, France is willing to further deepen cooperation with China in areas including civil nuclear energy, agricultural products, tourism and people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and promote mutual investment and trade. The French side places great attention on the G20 Summit in Hangzhou. He will attend the summit personally upon President Xi Jinping's invitation and fully support China in hosting a successful summit.

Yang Jiechi noted that Mr. President has paid two state visits to China, which has achieved breakthrough and improvement in such areas as political mutual trust, practical cooperation and people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and France. President Xi Jinping welcomes, and looks forwards to Mr. President's visit to China and attendance at the G20 Summit in Hangzhou this September.

Yang Jiechi expressed that China-France relations have special and important meaning. Both countries have been supporting each other in major issues, advancing together in practical cooperation in traditional and emerging areas, and launching third-party cooperation in a groundbreaking manner, playing a leading and demonstration role. China regards the bilateral relations as a priority in its diplomacy, and stands ready to, together with France, jointly safeguard political mutual trust, actively explore new cooperation directions while carrying out existing cooperation and come up with more propositions and plans that synergize both Chinese and French ideas so that the bilateral relations can stay on the track of sound, stable and comprehensive development. The Chinese side is willing to keep maintaining close communication with the French side on implementing the Paris Agreement on climate change. China believes that France will continue to offer strong support and cooperation with China in hosting a successful G20 Summit in Hangzhou.

On the same day, Yang Jiechi met with Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault of France. Yang Jiechi also held the new round of China-France strategic dialogue with Diplomatic Advisor to the French President Jacques Audibert.
