2016/04/12

On the morning of April 12, 2016, the launch ceremony of the Office of Foreign Missions (OFM) of the Foreign Ministry was held at the Olive Hall of the Ministry. Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui attended the ceremony and jointly inaugurated the OFM. More than 190 ambassadors to China, representatives from international organizations in China and diplomats attended the ceremony upon invitation. Leaders of relevant Chinese departments such as the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), the General Administration of Customs (GAC), the State Administration of Taxation (SAT), the People's Armed Police Force (PAPF) and the Beijing Municipal Government and departmental heads of the Foreign Ministry were present.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed heartfelt gratitude in his speech to diplomatic envoys in China for serving as envoys of friendship and bridges connecting China and the rest of the world, as well as their contributions to deepening friendship between the peoples of China and other countries around the world. Wang Yi stated that along with China's continuous development, the number of embassies and consulates as well as offices of international organizations and their working members in China is also growing, towards which China extends warm welcome.

Wang Yi said that "everything is smooth when staying at home but hard when traveling outside". Foreign missions may encounter various problems and difficulties in their work and life in China, which calls for joint efforts of the Chinese government and relevant agencies. The establishment of the OFM is to meet the demands of foreign missions under the new circumstance and provide them with more timely, efficient and regulated service and management in accordance with the law. It is hoped that all envoys can gain in-depth knowledge of the Chinese history and culture and national conditions during their terms of office, understand the social system and development path that China has chosen from an objective view, make comprehensive introduction of China's vigorous and dynamic development prospects and actively promote mutual understanding, cooperation and exchanges between China and other countries.

Wang Yi also thanked relevant Chinese authorities including the GAC, the SAT, the MPS and the PAPF for their support to foreign mission affairs all the time.

On behalf of the foreign missions in China, Cambodian Ambassador to China Khek Cai Mealy Sysoda warmly congratulated and highly praised the establishment of the OFM by the Foreign Ministry, and pointed out that foreign missions in China will render great support to the work of the OFM.

Director-General of the Protocol Department of the Foreign Ministry Qin Gang hosted the launch ceremony and announced the official launch of the WeChat account of the OFM.

The first Director of the OFM and Deputy Director of the Protocol Department Zhang Yiming introduced the office's duties such as managing and serving foreign missions in China according to law, safeguarding the due privileges and immunities of foreign missions and ensuring the same convenience for Chinese foreign missions abroad, as well as the upcoming series of facilitation measures for foreign missions in China. Zhang Yiming also expressed that the OFM is willing to conduct work exchanges with fellow offices of other countries, to learn advanced and mature experiences in mission affairs and continuously improve its work.
