2016/04/12

On the afternoon of April 12, 2016, Premier Li Keqiang met at Ziguangge of Zhongnanhai with Knesset Speaker Yuli-Yoel Edelstein of Israel.

Li Keqiang expressed that in recent years, China-Israel relations have enjoyed smooth and healthy development. Bilateral trade especially maintained strong growth against the backdrop of shrinking global trade last year, which showed the great potential of bilateral cooperation. China stands ready to take the 25th anniversary of the establishment of China-Israel diplomatic relations next year as an opportunity to further political exchanges at all levels, expand practical cooperation in various fields and actively push forward the negotiation on a free trade agreement (FTA) with Israel. The two sides should actively expand cooperation in the field of innovation and create institutional cooperation platforms so as to provide more convenience for innovation cooperation between China and Israel.

Li Keqiang pointed out that increasing exchanges between legislative bodies of the two countries will enhance mutual understanding between both peoples, and tamp the public support foundation for bilateral relations. It is hoped that the Israeli Knesset will as always support the development of bilateral relations and work with China to create a better environment for promoting bilateral practical cooperation, furthering people-to-people and cultural exchanges and facilitating personnel exchanges so as to continuously benefit the two peoples with more cooperative achievements.

Yuli-Yoel Edelstein said Israel-China friendship enjoys a profound foundation. The Israeli side admires the development achievements of China and appreciates China's active efforts in guiding the structural reform of economy and injecting new momentum for growth. Israel is willing to strengthen extensive exchanges with the Chinese government, legislative body, business circle, academic community and non-governmental organizations, and forge a partnership in driving growth, encouraging innovation and other fields so as to make Israel-China relations continuously achieve mutual benefits and win-win results.
