Wang Yi Meets with General-Secretary of Union Solidarity and Development Party Tin Naing Thein of Myanmar

On April 6, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Nay Pyi Taw with General-Secretary of Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) Tin Naing Thein of Myanmar.

Wang Yi conveyed the greetings from Chinese leaders to Chairman of the USDP U Thein Sein. Tin Naing Thein expressed that U Thein Sein is on a temporary monastic practice according to Myanmar's customs, and he also asked Wang Yi to convey his greetings to Chinese leaders.

Wang Yi said the USDP has actively promoted China-Myanmar cooperation during its administration, and played a key role in developing the comprehensive strategic partnership between both countries. Both sides have always firmly supported each other on issues related to each other's core interests and major concerns. Currently, Myanmar's domestic political environment has changed, but I can deeply feel that all parties in Myanmar share the same position and proposition on developing friendly relations with China in this visit. Likewise, China will also continue to pursue friendly policy toward Myanmar. Going beyond different systems and parties, the policy stems from the "paukphaw" friendship between the two peoples. The long-term and stable development of bilateral relations is in complete conformity with the fundamental interests of the two countries and the two peoples. It is hoped that the USDP will continue to commit itself to promoting China-Myanmar friendship. China stands ready to strengthen party-to-party exchanges and cooperation with the USDP.

Tin Naing Thein expressed that Myanmar and China are neighbors with "paukphaw" friendship. Successive governments of Myanmar have consistently attached importance to developing relations with China, and the USDP has always maintained friendly exchanges with the Communist Party of China. It is believed that Wang Yi's visit will further enhance exchanges of the two nations and both parties, and promote the development of Myanmar-China friendship. The USDP is willing to, as always, continue to strengthen party-to-party communication and cooperation with China so as to promote Myanmar-China cooperation in economy and trade as well as the friendship between the two peoples.
