On April 5, 2016 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks in Naypyidaw with Foreign Minister Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar.

Wang Yi said my visit to Myanmar upon invitation immediately after the new Myanmar government took office is a clear demonstration of the "paukphaw” friendship between the two countries. It also fully embodies the high attention of both sides on further developing the bilateral relations. Myanmar is standing at a new starting point in history. China hopes and believes that the new Myanmar government will unite all parties across its country and lead its people to create a new era of development and progress. Meanwhile, the relationship between China and Myanmar is also standing at a new starting point in history. China stands ready to join hands with the new Myanmar government to carry forward traditional China-Myanmar friendship, deepen political mutual trust and expand the mutually beneficial cooperation so as to open up a new future for bilateral relations.

Wang Yi expounded China's policy toward Myanmar to Aung San Suu Kyi, stressing that the China-Myanmar "paukphaw” friendship goes beyond differences in social systems, and the changes in Myanmar's domestic situation will not alter China's Myanmar policy. For the future development of bilateral relations, Wang Yi hoped that the two sides could strengthen high-level exchanges as soon as possible in order to jointly map out the next step for bilateral comprehensive cooperation. He also hoped that both sides could strengthen inter-party communication, exchange experience on managing state affairs, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in various areas and properly handle the problems emerging from the cooperation. China stands ready to, on the basis of respecting Myanmar's sovereignty and territorial integrity, play an active role in Myanmar's national reconciliation in accordance with Myanmar's needs and willingness.

Aung San Suu Kyi expressed that Myanmar and China are neighbors with their interests closely connected. She personally felt the profound friendship between the two people and their great importance to bilateral relations when she visited China in 2015. Myanmar will not forget China's support and help, especially the help that came at critical moments. As the new Myanmar government aspires to promote national reconciliation and achieve stability and development, the substantial and continuous assistance and support from China in various aspects means a great deal for Myanmar. She believed China will continue to be Myanmar's good friend.
