Liu Yandong Pays Official Visit to Egypt

On March 27, 2016 local time, Vice Premier Liu Yandong met with President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Prime Minister Sherif Ismail of Egypt respectively in Cairo.

Liu Yandong said that China and Egypt have been supporting, respecting and trusting each other since the establishment of diplomatic relations 60 years ago. At present, China-Egypt relations maintain a sound momentum of rapid development. President Xi Jinping paid a successful state visit to Egypt this January, which charted the course for and injected new vitality into the development of the bilateral relations. My visit to Egypt this time is aimed to advance the implementation of important consensus reached between the two heads of state. China is willing to maintain high-level exchanges with Egypt, enhance the docking between development strategies of two nations, steadily promote major projects in infrastructure construction and production capacity cooperation under the framework of jointly building the "Belt and Road" initiative, actively carry out exchanges and cooperation in such fields as education, science and technology, culture, public health and cultural heritage protection, and expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges and non-governmental exchanges with Egypt, so as to strengthen the public opinion foundation for China-Egypt friendship and constantly advance new progress in China-Egypt cooperation.

President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said that the successful state visit paid by President Xi to Egypt early this year has enhanced the Egypt-China strategic partnership and strongly pushed forward the bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields. Both sides should further strengthen political mutual support, advance the economic cooperation featuring mutual benefits, and enhance communication and coordination in international and regional affairs. Egypt considers China as the preferred cooperation partner in major project cooperation such as infrastructure and energy, and hopes to speed up the alignment between the development strategies of Egypt and the "Belt and Road" initiative of China.

Prime Minister Sherif Ismail said that Egypt is satisfied with the current development of Egypt-China relations and hoped that the bilateral relations could become better and better. The enhancement of bilateral exchanges and cooperation in such fields as education, technology and culture is important to the future development of Egypt. The Egyptian side is willing to work with the Chinese side to actively plan and comprehensively advance exchanges and cooperation in various fields.
