Li Keqiang Meets with Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong of Laos

On the afternoon of March 23, 2016, Premier Li Keqiang met in Sanya with Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong of Laos, who was in China for attendance of the 1st Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Leaders' Meeting and the 2016 annual conference of Boao Forum for Asia.

Li Keqiang said that over the past 55 years since China and Laos established diplomatic relations, bilateral relations have achieved substantial progress. China is willing to maintain exchanges at all levels with Laos, expand communication in all fields, and constantly promote cooperation in major projects including China-Laos railway and hydropower for new results, so as to better benefit the two peoples.

Li Keqiang pointed out that this year marks the beginning year of the launch of the ASEAN community as well as the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the China-ASEAN dialogue relationship. China will firmly support the construction of the ASEAN community as always, and render full support to the work of Laos as this year's rotating chairmanship of the the ASEAN. It is hoped that Laos could actively participate in the construction of Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) mechanism and work with China to push LMC for fruitful results.

Thongsing Thammavong expressed that the LMC symbolizes that the Lancang-Mekong River has become a river of happiness and cooperation benefiting the six countries along it. Laos will, together with China, earnestly implement the consensus reached in the first LMC Leaders' Meeting. Laos and China now witness smooth friendly cooperation and increasingly intensified personnel exchanges. Laos is willing to continue deepening bilateral cooperation and ensure the success of the activities marking the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
