2016/03/01

On March 1, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) Luis Almagro.

Wang Yi expressed that as the most important inter-governmental political organization in the western hemisphere, the OAS plays an active role in regional political, economic, social and other affairs. Since China became a permanent observer of the OAS 12 years ago, both sides have been launching productive cooperation in the spirit of mutual benefits and win-win results, which has promoted the stable development of Latin American and the Caribbean region, and enhanced the mutual understanding and friendship between both peoples. It is hoped that both sides will take this visit as an opportunity to strengthen dialogues and cooperation so as to jointly make more contributions to the development of China-Latin America relations.

Luis Almagro noted that the OAS highly values its relations with China and adheres to the One-China policy. The OAS is willing to boost exchanges and expand cooperation with China so as to push forward the deepening of bilateral relations.
