Li Keqiang Sends Message to Congratulate on Official Launch of the Serbian Section of the Hungary-Serbia Railway Project

On December 23, 2015, Premier Li Keqiang sent a message to congratulate on the official launch of the Serbian section of the Hungary-Serbia railway project. Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic of Serbia attended and addressed the launch ceremony.

Li Keqiang expressed in the congratulatory message that the launch of the Hungary- Serbia railway, which is a flagship project of trilateral cooperation among China, Serbia and Hungary, represents that cooperation among the three countries has taken a new and important step forward and indicates that China’s practical cooperation with the Central and Eastern European countries has stood at a new historical starting point.

Li Keqiang pointed out that the Chinese side stands ready to make joint efforts with the Serbian side and the Hungarian side to earnestly and efficiently advance the construction of the Hungary-Serbia railway project according to consensus and agreements concluded, in a bid to ensure high-quality completion as scheduled and opening of the railway as early as possible. It is believed that this will not only vigorously boost infrastructure construction and connectivity in the region, increase the local people’s benefits and facilitate the European integration process, but also help better dovetail the development strategies of China and Europe as well as deepen China-EU cooperation in international production capacity, investment and other key areas for mutual benefits and win-win results.

Aleksandar Vucic expressed in his address appreciation for the arduous efforts made by both Chinese and Serbian work teams to push ahead the Hungary-Serbia railway project, noting that the launch of the project is another major breakthrough in Serbia-China practical cooperation. It is also full manifestation of the further enhancement of the strategic partnership between the two countries and bears great significance to the in-depth development of the “16+1” cooperation. The Hungary-Serbia railway significantly brings Serbia closer to the heartland of Europe, and will help build Serbia into a regional pivot of transportation and logistics. Serbia stands ready to continuously work together with its partner China to ensure the goal of opening the Hungary-Serbia railway by 2018.
