Wang Yang Attends and Addresses Series of Cooperative Activities Co-hosted by China and US
2015/11/23

On November 22, 2015, a series of cooperative activities such as China-US CEO Roundtable, seminar on economic and trade cooperation between Chinese provinces and US states, seminar on public health and healthcare cooperation and seminar on agriculture and food cooperation were held in Guangzhou. Vice Premier Wang Yang, and Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker, Trade Representative Michael Froman and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack of the US and others attended these activities.

The cooperative activities held under the framework of the China-US Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade (JCCT) are significant innovations of the JCCT carried out by China and the US in these two years. All sectors in the commercial and political fields of the two countries speak highly of the reform, holding that the reformed JCCT not only plays the role as a "fire extinguisher" to tackle China-US economic and trade disputes but also gradually becomes a "propeller" for economic and trade cooperation between both countries. This old mechanism is showing new vigor.

In his speech, Wang Yang expressed that the establishment of modern enterprise system in China has scored steady progress. China will further promote benign interactions between enterprises and the government and create an international business environment featuring rule of law. As local cooperation is the cornerstone of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, it is hoped that the two sides will fully tap the huge potential for economic and trade cooperation between both provinces (states) and cities so as to lift China-US cooperation up to a new height. The new concept of shared development and the new objective of building a healthy China put forward at the fifth plenary session of the 18th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee will strongly push the rapid development of public health and healthcare industries in China. Enterprises from the US and other countries are welcomed to seize the business opportunity to achieve win-win results. Agriculture is a stable field of cooperation between China and the US. Both sides should give full play to their advantages and take care of each other's concerns so as to make the "cake" of agricultural cooperation bigger. China stands ready to work with the US to implement various achievements yielded during President Xi Jinping's visit to the US this September.

The US side expressed that China has an increasingly clearer objective of reform and opening up and a grand development vision, and the US and China will enjoy more business opportunities in province-state, healthcare, agriculture and other fields of cooperation. It is hoped that China will further ease market access and improve trade and investment environment so as to build a more robust and healthier US-China economic and trade partnership.
