Xi Jinping Meets with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada

On November 16 local time, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada in Antalya, Turkey.

Xi Jinping pointed out that Canada was once at the forefront in developing relations with China among the western countries for a long time. Forty-five years ago, your father Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau made the historic decision of establishing diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China, showing extraordinary political foresight. Forty-five years after that, China and Canada now see broader fields in which they should and can cooperate. Under the new situation, China and Canada should enhance political mutual trust and strengthen exchanges and contacts between their leaders to develop a long-term, sound and stable strategic partnership on the basis of mutual respect and win-win cooperation, strengthen docking of their development strategies to expand cooperation in extensive fields, and intensify exchanges and cooperation in fields such as culture, education and tourism. China is willing to work with Canada to think creatively, act actively, tap cooperation potential and forge more highlights in cooperation so as to lift bilateral practical cooperation to new and higher levels, promote China-Canada strategic partnership for greater development and bring more and better benefits to the two peoples. China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with Canada in multilateral mechanisms such as the United Nations, G20 and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation to give better play to these multilateral mechanisms and jointly strive for peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region and the world at large.

Justin Trudeau said that on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Canada and China, Canada hopes to comprehensively deepen the friendly cooperative relations with China. Both sides should strengthen exchanges at high levels, especially between the leaders, enhance political mutual trust, boost communication and cooperation in various fields such as economy, trade, agriculture, urbanization, and people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and promote Canada-China relations for better development on the basis of mutual benefits and win-win results. Canada welcomes Chinese enterprises to increase investment in fields such as infrastructure in Canada, and is willing to intensify contacts and coordination with China on global issues such as tackling climate change.
