Wang Yi Meets with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh of Viet Nam

On November 12, 2015, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Jinghong, Yunnan Province with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh of Viet Nam who was in China to attend the first foreign ministers' meeting on Lancang-Mekong River cooperation.

Wang Yi said that General Secretary and President Xi Jinping paid a successful state visit to Viet Nam last week, and the top leaders of the two countries reached new and important consensus on consolidating China-Viet Nam friendship and deepening mutually beneficial cooperation, which charted the course for the current and future development of China-Viet Nam relations from a strategic height. We stand ready to work with Viet Nam to earnestly implement the consensus, consolidate the current positive development momentum of relations between the two political parties and the two countries, maintain a sound public opinion atmosphere, make the utmost efforts to promote practical cooperation in all areas, and at the same time actively guide public opinions of the two countries and properly manage and control the differences.

Pham Binh Minh said that General Secretary and President Xi Jinping's state visit to Viet Nam was a complete success with important achievements. Relevant departments of Viet Nam are earnestly implementing the series of cooperative agreements reached by the two sides. The Vietnamese people pay high attention to the speeches of President Xi Jinping at the National Assembly of Viet Nam and at the meeting with the youth representatives of both countries, and expect to move toward the development direction of bilateral relations put forward by President Xi Jinping.

Wang Yi said that the Lancang-Mekong River cooperation conforms to the current development trend of regional cooperation and is in line with the development interests of all countries. China is ready to work with Viet Nam and other countries along the Mekong River to construct the Lancang-Mekong River cooperation mechanism into an essential platform for sub-regional cooperation, carry out concrete and tangible cooperation projects, and complement with other existing regional cooperation mechanisms to push the nations along the river to play their respective advantages for common development.

Pham Binh Minh indicated that he is very glad to attend the first foreign ministers' meeting on Lancang-Mekong River cooperation in China and open up this sub-regional cooperation mechanism with other participating countries. Viet Nam is ready to work with China to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries on advancing Lancang-Mekong River cooperation, and launch closer cooperation with other Mekong River countries in the key cooperation areas identified at the meeting.
