Wang Yi Talks about the Situation in Myanmar and China-Myanmar Relations

On November 12, 2015, after attending the first foreign ministers’ meeting on Lancang-Mekong River cooperation in Jinghong, Yunnan Province, Foreign Minister Wang Yi introduced China’s views on the situation in Myanmar and China-Myanmar relations to the press upon enquire.

Wang Yi noted that China is gratified that the general election in Myanmar was held as scheduled and went smoothly. As a friendly neighbor, China sincerely hopes that Myanmar can enjoy political stability, national harmony and economic prosperity and that its political parties and factions can unite as one for the construction and development of the country. During this process, the Chinese side is willing to continue to offer support and assistance to Myanmar.

Wang Yi expressed that China and Myanmar are friendly neighbors. Consolidating traditional “Paukphaw” friendship and expanding practical cooperation in all fields accord with the common wishes of both countries and peoples. The Chinese side will continue to pursue a friendly policy towards Myanmar and support Myanmar’s efforts in pushing the national reconciliation process, and stands ready to, together with Myanmar, safeguard the stability of the border areas between the two countries. It is believed that under the joint efforts of both sides, the China-Myanmar comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation will be further consolidated and enhanced and bring more substantial benefits to both peoples.
