Zhang Dejiang Meets with Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany

On October 29, 2015, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Zhang Dejiang met at the Great Hall of the People with Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany.

Zhang Dejiang noted that during President Xi Jinping's visit to Germany last year, both sides identified the new position of China-Germany all-round strategic partnership, with strategic connotation of bilateral relations constantly enriched and cooperation in all sectors continuously deepened. Over the past year, the NPC and the German Bundestag achieved new progress in exchanges and cooperation, successfully concluded the regular meeting on exchange mechanism, and witnessed frequent exchanges between special committees, deputies and the parliament members of both sides. The legislative bodies of both sides should maintain the momentum of sound exchanges, boost bilateral contacts at all levels, deepen exchange of experience in legislation, regulation as well as governance and administration of state affairs, enhance the understanding of each other's national conditions, social systems and development paths, and unite and mobilize all the positive elements to together push China-Germany relations and China-EU relations for in-depth development.

Angela Merkel spoke positively of Germany-China cooperation in various fields and said that the delegation for her visit always includes parliament members. She hoped that the German Bundestag and the NPC could enhance exchanges at various levels and carry out cooperation in a wider range.

Wang Chen was present at the meeting.
