Yang Jiechi Holds Talks with Foreign Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane of South Africa

On October 9 local time, State Councilor Yang Jiechi held talks with Foreign Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane of South Africa in Johannesburg.

Yang Jiechi expressed that in recent years, China and South Africa enjoy smooth development in their relations, with political mutual trust reaching an unprecedented high level and all-round practical cooperation being constantly deepened. China will join efforts with South Africa to turn the important consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and President Jacob Zuma into specific cooperation results and push bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership for greater development.

Yang Jiechi said that this year is significant in the development history of China-South Africa and China-Africa relations. President Xi Jinping will attend the Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) to be held in South Africa and pay a visit to the country. China appreciates the active preparatory work of South Africa and hopes both sides seize time to coordinate and actively prepare to ensure a complete success of and more results from the Summit and the visit.

Maite Nkoana-Mashabane said that South Africa is satisfied with the development of South Africa-China relations. The FOCAC Summit to be held in South Africa this year is the best manifestation of South Africa-China and Africa-China friendly cooperative relations. South Africa highly values and appreciates the series of important speeches and major proposals of President Xi Jinping at the UN General Assembly not long ago, and eagerly expects President Xi Jinping to co-chair the Summit with President Jacob Zuma in South Africa and pay a visit to the country, and will enhance coordination with China to ensure a complete success of the Summit and the visit thus inject new and stronger impetus into the development of South Africa-China and Africa-China relations.
