2015/09/17

On September 16 local time, State Councilor Yang Jiechi met in Los Angeles with Vice President Joe Biden of the US as Special Representative of President Xi Jinping.

Yang Jiechi expressed that since the meeting between President Xi Jinping and President Barack Obama at Annenberg Estate, the building of the new model of major-country relationship between China and the US has yielded important results. Vice President Joe Biden personally attended the closing ceremony of the first China-US Summit on Climate-Smart/Low-Carbon Cities, fully embodying high attention paid by the US to the Summit and bilateral climate change cooperation. President Xi Jinping will soon pay a state visit to the US at the invitation of President Barack Obama, which is of great significance to bilateral relations and the development of the international situation. China will work together with the US to ensure a complete success of the visit and make the visit a historic one in the history of bilateral relations.

Joe Biden said that the US and China boast broad common interests and further developing bilateral relations exerts a far-reaching and important influence on world peace and prosperity. The two heads of state reached a joint statement on climate change during their meeting last year, and this Summit once again demonstrated that the two countries are willing to and capable of boosting cooperation in climate change and other sectors. The US side welcomes President Xi Jinping's upcoming state visit to the US and hopes that President Barack Obama and President Xi Jinping will then exchange in-depth views on bilateral relations as well as major international and regional issues. The US side will continuously advance bilateral relations.
