2015/09/17

On September 16 local time, State Councilor Yang Jiechi met with Mayor of Los Angeles Eric Garcetti of the US in the city.

Yang Jiechi said that the first China-US Summit on Climate-Smart/Low-Carbon Cities was held in Los Angeles, during which participants of the two countries had warm communications and achieved important results. As the host city of the US, Los Angeles made huge efforts for the Summit and has played a positive role in China-US climate change cooperation. Addressing climate change constitutes an important part of bilateral practical cooperation. At the invitation of President Barack Obama, President Xi Jinping will soon pay a state visit to the US. This will be a historic visit and is believed to bring strong impetus to the advancing of bilateral relations, the expanding of bilateral all-round practical cooperation and the deepening of friendship between the two peoples. Local exchange and cooperation is becoming a new highlight in bilateral relations. It is hoped that Los Angeles will play a leading role in and make new contributions to it.

Eric Garcetti expressed that he warmly welcomes President Xi Jinping’s state visit to the US and believes that the visit will comprehensively promote US-China relations. The two countries enhancing cooperation in such areas as addressing climate change and pushing forward non-governmental and local exchanges is beneficial to the development of bilateral relations. Los Angeles will continue its efforts to this end.
