Yang Jiechi Attends the China-US Summit on Climate-Smart/Low-Carbon Cities

On the afternoon of September 16 local time, State Councilor Yang Jiechi, as President Xi Jinping's Special Representative attended the closing ceremony of the first China-US Summit on Climate-Smart/Low-Carbon Cities along with Vice President Joe Biden of the US, and delivered a speech.

Yang Jiechi first expressed warm congratulations on the fruitful results of this Summit on behalf of President Xi Jinping and the Chinese government, and said that President Xi Jinping will soon pay a state visit to the US at the invitation of President Barack Obama. He also said that during this visit he deeply felt the welcome and expectations of people from all sectors of the US for President Xi Jinping's visit. This Summit is an important act to implement the China-US Joint Announcement on Climate Change issued by the two heads of state during their meeting in 2014. It also strongly promotes and injects new impetus into international cooperation on climate change. China and the US should take the opportunity of this successful Summit to further enhance cooperation with other members of the international community and to write a new chapter in international cooperation on climate change.

More than 500 people from local governments and business circles as well as industry experts of both countries attended the Summit. The US side spoke positively of the new efforts made by China in combating climate change and stated that this Summit is an active measure to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state during their meeting and also indicates broad prospects for bilateral cooperation. President Xi Jinping's visit to the US is of great significance, and it is expected and believed that the visit will promote the exchanges and cooperation of both sides in various fields including addressing climate change.
