Liu Yandong Meets with Prime Minister Najib Razak of Malaysia

On July 30 local time, Vice Premier Liu Yandong met with Prime Minister Najib Razak of Malaysia at the Prime Minister’s Office in Kuala Lumpur.

Liu Yandong conveyed greetings from President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang to Najib Razak. Liu Yandong expressed that I am entrusted by President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang to state to the 128th session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) the unswerving support of the Chinese government for Beijing’s bid for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Kuala Lumpur. China’s bid for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games is to promote the winter sports, realize a “healthy China” and at the same time better advance the Olympic Movement in the world.

Liu Yandong expressed that Malaysia is an important and close partner of China in Southeast Asia. The bilateral cooperation enjoys strong complementarity and huge potential. China is willing to, together with Malaysia, maintain high-level exchanges, promote strategic docking and further expand exchanges and cooperation in areas such as economy and trade, education, sports, youth and tourism so as to promote greater development in bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership and realize their common development.

Najib Razak asked Liu Yandong to convey his greetings to the Chinese leaders and wished China good luck in bidding for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games. Najib Razak expressed that he pays high attention to bilateral relations and set new goals for further enhancing bilateral cooperation and elevating the level of bilateral relations since taking office. Malaysia supports China’s initiatives and proposals including establishing the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and promoting the “Belt and Road” construction and hopes that the two sides will further strengthen communication and coordination and deepen practical cooperation in various areas such as economy, trade and tourism.
