Yang Jiechi Meets with OPCW Director-General

On June 9, 2015, State Councilor Yang Jiechi met at Zhongnanhai with Director-General of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Ahmet Uzumcu.

Yang Jiechi expressed that since taking effect 18 years ago, the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) has played an irreplaceable role in fields of disarmament and non-proliferation, and constituted an important part of the international security system. The Chinese side supports the purposes and objectives of the Convention, attaches importance to the role of the Convention, and earnestly fulfills the obligations set out by the Convention. The Chinese side is willing to continue to deepen cooperation with OPCW.

Ahmet Uzumcu appreciated China's full implementation of the obligations set out by the Convention, spoke highly of China's important role in OPCW, and expressed his willingness to further enhance cooperation and communication with the Chinese side.
