Li Keqiang Holds Telephone Talks with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras of Greece at Request

On the afternoon of April 14, 2015, Premier Li Keqiang held telephone talks with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras of Greece at request.

Alexis Tsipras briefed on Greece's consideration of the enhancement of its cooperation with China in various fields, especially the Piraeus port project.

Li Keqiang spoke positively of the development of China-Greece relations, and expressed appreciation of China for the importance attached to bilateral relations by Mr. Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras since he assumed the office as well as his repetitive expression of firm support for the cooperation between China and Greece in the flagship project of the Piraeus port. The promotion of the Piraeus port project not only embodies the traditional friendship between the two countries, but also conduces to uplifting the bilateral practical cooperation to a new high and boosting the Greek economy, which in turn will benefit Europe and the European Union. Meanwhile, the project is conducive to boosting the confidence of Chinese enterprises in investing and developing in Greece and pushing forward the construction of the Land-Sea Express Line linking China and Europe. China is willing to work together with Greece to make Piraeus a first-class port in the Mediterranean and Europe at large, as well as an important hub in the region, so that it could become a symbolic “name card” of mutually beneficial cooperation featuring win-win results between China and Greece.

Alexis Tsipras noted that the new Greek government has been committed to strengthening Greece-China practical cooperation since it came into power, and is fully confident about the prospects of the bilateral relations. Enjoying a traditional friendship with China, Greece is willing to become a strategic cooperative partner of China in Europe. Greece firmly supports and will actively accelerate the Piraeus port project, the symbolic project for the mutually beneficial cooperation featuring win-win results between Greece and China. Greece hopes that the Land-Sea Express Line linking Europe and China will be completed as soon as possible.
