Li Keqiang Meets with President Takehiko Nakao of ADB

In the morning of March 23, 2015, Premier Li Keqiang met with President Takehiko Nakao of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) at the Great Hall of the People.

Li Keqiang said that China-ADB cooperation has been advancing smoothly and yielded fruitful results. We appreciate the ADB’s support for promoting China’s economic and social development, poverty reduction, participation in regional economic cooperation and others. As the biggest developing country, China is willing to continue promoting the cooperative partnership with the ADB and hopes that the ADB can play a bigger role in promoting poverty reduction and development in the Asia-Pacific region.

Li Keqiang pointed out that China’s initiative of establishing the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is to accelerate connectivity in the region and to promote social and economic development. The AIIB will complement with the existing multilateral development banks in an open and inclusive attitude to achieve mutual benefits and win-win outcomes.

Takehiko Nakao said that the ADB has long been a participant in China’s reform and opening-up course and has also obtained China’s important support. The ADB admires China’s achievements in development and poverty reduction and believes that China’s experience is beneficial to the global development. The establishment of the AIIB adapts to the requirements of the regional economic development, and the ADB is willing to carry out cooperation with the AIIB.
