Li Keqiang Holds Telephone Talks with Newly-elected Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras of Greece at Request

In the afternoon of February 11, 2015, Premier Li Keqiang held telephone talks with the newly-elected Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras of Greece at Request.

Li Keqiang expressed that China attaches importance to the traditional friendship and the constantly expanding practical cooperation with Greece, and will stick to equal treatment, mutual benefit and win-win results to promote bilateral relations to a new stage.

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said that the Greek government pays high attention to developing relations with China and welcomes China to expand investment in the country. The new Greek government will not change the nature of existing bilateral cooperation projects, and has confidence to, together with China, push the further development of bilateral friendly cooperative relations.

Li Keqiang pointed out that China-Greece relations boast a broad prospect and their cooperation results have benefited the people in the two countries and the region. Mr. Prime Minister reiterated that Greece welcomes China to expand investment in the country and will fulfill the cooperation agreements reached by the two sides. It is hoped that your government could offer better legal guarantee for Chinese enterprises operating in Greece.

Li Keqiang stressed that as a successful model for China-Greece cooperation, the Piraeus Port constructed by China Ocean Shipping Company not only boosted local employment, but also better safeguarded and improved the rights, interests and work conditions of the workers. I hope that both sides could honor their promises. China will fully cooperate with Greece to build the Piraeus Port into a first class port in the Mediterranean Sea as well as an important hub in the region, giving full play to its role of an important bridge in constructing a land-sea express passage between China and Europe and pushing the connectivity between Asia and Europe.

Alexis Tsipras expressed that Greece is now at a vital stage of revitalizing and developing economy, and it needs the support and help from China. Greece will, together with China, expand cooperation in such fields as ocean and maritime transportation and meanwhile conduct a package of cooperation in infrastructure construction, finance and other areas. The Piraeus Port is very important to Greece's economic development as well as a leading project for bilateral cooperation, to which Greece will pay more attention and offer more support. China is an important force in supporting the stable development of Europe. Greece attaches importance to the construction of the land-sea express passage between Europe and China and is willing to become a bridge for Europe-China cooperation thus to push for continuous development of Europe-China relations.
