Xi Jinping Holds Telephone Talks with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Viet Nam

On February 11, 2015, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Chinese President, held telephone talks with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Viet Nam.

Xi Jinping noted that I am pleased to hold telephone talks with you on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of China-Viet Nam diplomatic relationship. We have maintained telephone talks for three consecutive years so far, and maintenance of such contacts and communications plays an important role in promoting the sound and steady development of China-Viet Nam relationship.

Xi Jinping pointed out that friendship and cooperation have been the mainstream of China-Viet Nam relations since the two countries established diplomatic relationship 65 years ago. The two parties, countries and peoples have supported each other, helped each other, adhered to the leadership of the parties and followed the path of socialism, making the two sides the community of shared destiny with strategic significance. At present, the international and regional situations are undergoing profound and complicated changes in a continuous manner and the two countries are both at key stages of comprehensively deepening reform and devoting to renovation cause. It is in line with the fundamental interests of the two peoples and conducive to regional peace, stability and prosperity for the two sides to cement mutual political trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, strengthen guidance of public opinion, and properly handle differences.

Xi Jinping stressed that the CPC and the Chinese government have always attached great importance to the traditional friendship with Viet Nam and viewed and held the bilateral relationship from a strategic and long-term perspective. The CPC and the Chinese government stand ready to work with their counterparts of Viet Nam to promote sound and steady development of the China-Viet Nam comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in accordance with the “16 Word Guideline” and the “four-good spirit”, namely the spirit of good neighbors, good friends, good comrades and good partners. Xi Jinping extended welcome to Nguyen Phu Trong for an early visit to China this year.

Xi Jinping also briefed on China’s reform, development and party building, and spoke positively of the achievements the party and people of Viet Nam have made in comprehensively advancing renovation cause under the leadership of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) with Nguyen Phu Trong as General Secretary.

Nguyen Phu Trong extended congratulations on the achievements China has made in its economic and social development and construction of a country governed by law. He expressed that the friendship and good neighborliness between Viet Nam and China, which were fostered by the older generations of leaders of the two countries including Hồ Chí Minh and Mao Zedong, are key to the success of the revolutionary causes of the two countries. The CPV and the Vietnamese government and people have always regarded developing the friendly and cooperative relationship with China as a top priority in foreign policy of the country. Nguyen Phu Trong invited Xi Jinping to visit Viet Nam and expressed willingness of Viet Nam to work with China to enhance mutual political trust, deepen practical cooperation, and advance people-to-people and cultural exchanges, so as to push forward the sound and steady development of bilateral relationship.

Xi Jinping and Nguyen Phu Trong also exchanged greetings for the Spring Festival and wished the two peoples a happy new year.
