Wang Yi: China is Staunch Force for Safeguarding World Peace
2015/01/12

On January 11 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi answered question from a journalist in Sudan on the reason why China has recently been more initiative and active in mediating hotspot issues. He said that China is always a staunch force for safeguarding world peace.

Wang Yi said that as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and a responsible major country, on the premise of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, according to the basic principle of the international relations, and in consideration of the will of countries involved, China has always stuck to playing a positive and constructive role in maintaining regional and international peace and stability, including dealing with regional hotspot issues.

As early as the 1980s, we tried our best to mediate the Cambodian issue and achieved remarkable achievements. After the 1990s, we actively mediated the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula and maintained the overall peace on the Peninsula. At present, we are also willing to respond to the will of the international community and the countries involved within our capacity, so as to play a constructive role with Chinese characteristics in properly addressing various existing regional and hotspot issues. We were actively involved in Iran's nuclear negotiations, and promoted and participated in the Geneva International Conference on Syria and so on. All African countries are our friends, and many African friends expect China to play a greater role in Africa. In response to the will of African friends, we are willing to make our own contributions to maintaining peace and security in Africa.
