Li Keqiang Holds a Group Meeting with the Heads of Delegations on the CELAC Side Participating in the First Ministerial Meeting of China-CELAC Forum, Stressing to Safeguard Regional and World Peace and Stability and Promote China-Latin America Overall Cooperation for Mutual Benefit and Win-win Results

In the morning of January 9, 2015, Premier Li Keqiang held a group meeting at the Great Hall of the People with the heads of delegations of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), who came to China to attend the first ministerial meeting of the China-CELAC Forum.

Li Keqiang expressed that China and Latin America have always adhered to mutual respect, equal treatment, sincere cooperation and mutual benefit with win-win results. The development of bilateral relations enjoys broad prospect. Yesterday President Xi Jinping put forward four important proposals on promoting China-Latin America overall cooperation at the opening ceremony of the meeting. Both sides should take this meeting as an opportunity to map out the new chapter of development for China-Latin America relations and cooperation in the next period to come, enabling China-Latin America overall cooperation as well as bilateral cooperation between China and the member states of the CELAC to promote each other and progress in a parallel manner.

Li Keqiang pointed out that China and Latin American countries are all developing countries, sharing similar development goals and broad common interest. We all advocate the multi-polarization of world pattern and democratization of international relations, holding that growing the economy and improving people's livelihood needs peaceful and stable regional and international environment. The enhancement of exchanges and cooperation between the two major economies, China and Latin America, and of contacts and communication between the two peoples is conducive not only to the well-being of both sides, but also to safeguarding the development and prosperity of the region and the world at large.

Li Keqiang stressed that both sides should innovate cooperative thinking, promote cooperation in trade, investment, finance and other fields, transform the resource advantages to industrial advantage and promote the transformation and upgrading of China-Latin America practical cooperation so as to realize common development and mutual benefit with win-win results at a higher level. China is willing to make use of its own advantage of excess production capacity to cooperate with Latin America in infrastructure construction and other fields, and hopes that Latin America will provide a level playing field and just legal guarantee for Chinese equipment and other products to enter local market.

Li Keqiang expressed that currently the world economic recovery is still sluggish. China's economy is capable of maintaining medium-to-high speed growth and strives to progress towards a medium-to-high level, which will provide more market opportunities, investment opportunities and growth opportunities for countries around the world including Latin America and the Caribbean.

The heads of delegations on the CELAC side thanked Li Keqiang for the meeting and spoke highly of China's successful holding of the first ministerial meeting of the CELAC-China Forum. Foreign ministers of the “Quartet” of CELAC, namely Costa Rica, Ecuador, Cuba and Bahamas, and others, expressed on behalf of heads of participating delegations that the development of Latin America-China relations and cooperation has brought tangible benefits to the two peoples. This meeting laid the foundation for the Latin American side and China to establish a new partnership in the new era. The CELAC stands ready to seize the opportunity and join hands with China to promote Latin America-China relations and cooperation for new development and make greater contribution to regional and world peace, stability, development and prosperity.
