Wang Yi Pays an Official Visit to Kenya

On January 10, 2015, President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya met with the visiting Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Nairobi.

Kenyatta expressed that Chinese Foreign Minister’s first visit to Kenya at the beginning of the new year fully signifies the all-around friendship between Kenya and China. Kenya is focusing on economic development and regards China as a strong cooperative partner, hoping to further consolidate and strengthen the bilateral comprehensive cooperative partnership. Strong Kenya-China cooperation is not only in line with the needs of the two sides, but also beneficial for safeguarding the overall interests of developing countries.

Wang Yi expressed that China and Kenya are good friends, good partners and good brothers who always understand and support each other. Under the new situation, the two countries are facing important opportunities of docking their respective development strategies at a historic point. China is ready to further expand exchanges and cooperation according to Kenya’s needs for its development in seven major areas including agriculture, infrastructure, industry transfer, renewable energy, eco-environmental protection, people-to-people and cultural engagement as well as peace and security. As this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations, China is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Kenya in terms of the development agenda after 2015 and other major international and regional issues, so as to jointly promote world peace and development.

On the same day, Wang Yi held talks with Foreign Minister Amina Mohamed of Kenya and jointly signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) about setting up the China-Kenya bilateral steering committee.
