Li Keqiang Meets with President Rafael Correa of Ecuador

In the afternoon of January 8, 2015, Premier Li Keqiang met at the Great Hall of the People with President Rafael Correa of Ecuador, who was in China for a visit and the attendance of first ministerial meeting of the Forum of China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

Li Keqiang expressed that China and Ecuador enjoy traditional friendship and this year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between the two countries. Yesterday, President Xi Jinping and you held a fruitful talk, during which the two countries decided to establish strategic partnership. China stands ready to, together with Ecuador, enhance political mutual trust, strengthen the design and guidance for the bilateral relations, promote cooperation in various fields and make the development of China-Ecuador relations better benefit the two peoples.

Li Keqiang also pointed out that China supports Ecuador in formulating the overall plan of national industry and is willing to help Ecuador in its industrial development in such fields as steel, metallurgy and ship building to offer a helping hand to the economic development of Ecuador by making use of its advantages in equipment manufacturing, so as to achieve mutual benefits and win-win results. Both sides should bring the role of inter-governmental cooperative mechanisms into full play, expand the cooperation in economy, trade, financing and other fields in a steady manner, and forge new growth points in bilateral cooperation. I hope that Ecuador will continue playing a positive role in pushing China-Latin America overall cooperation as the rotating chairmanship of the CELAC.

Rafael Correa said that his visit serves not only as an important activity for celebration of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship, but also as a new opportunity to deepen bilateral friendly exchanges and cooperation. Ecuador and China enjoy high complementarity in their economy and constantly deepened bilateral cooperation. Ecuador is pleased to see more and more Chinese enterprises to invest in the country, integrating themselves as one part of the economic development of Ecuador. Ecuador-China relations, which can be described as model of Latin America-China relations, embody not only in bilateral economic and trade cooperation, but also in the political mutual trust, people-to-people and culture exchanges and multilateral cooperation. Ecuador congratulates the Chinese side on the success of the first ministerial meeting of the CELAC-China Forum, which is a major event with historic significance in the history of Latin America-China relations. Ecuador is ready to continue promoting the Latin America-China overall cooperation in a positive manner.
