Li Keqiang Meets with Prime Minister Perry Gladstone Christie of Bahamas

In the afternoon of January 8, 2015, Premier Li Keqiang met at the Great Hall of the People with Prime Minister Perry Gladstone Christie of Bahamas, who was in China for the attendance of the first ministerial meeting of the Forum of China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

Li Keqiang expressed that despite of the difference in area and population, China and Bahamas are good friends and good partners respecting each other and treating each other sincerely. Over the past 17 years since the establishment of diplomatic relationship, China and Bahamas have always understood and respected the core interests and major concerns of the other side and enjoy mutual support and cooperation in international and regional affairs. Bahamas has grown into an important cooperative partner of China in the Caribbean region. China stands ready to, together with Bahamas, promote China-Bahamas relations and relationship between China and Caribbean states for in-depth development.

Li Keqiang noted that it is hoped that both sides could tap cooperation potentials, expand cooperation fields, innovate cooperation approaches, and intensify cooperation in ocean, fishery, tourism and other fields by focusing on the key fields of infrastructure construction. China encourages more Chinese enterprises to carry out cooperation in economy, trade, investment and other fields in Bahamas and welcomes enterprises of Bahamas to invest and establish business in China.

Li Keqiang stressed that China understands the concerns of the small island countries including Bahamas on climate change. China attaches great importance to climate change and has made tremendous efforts in this regard. China stands ready to continuously intensify cooperation with small island countries, provide assistance within its capacity and join efforts to cope with the challenges.

Perry Gladstone Christie said that Bahamas and China enjoy traditional friendship. Bahamas cherishes its friendship with China, highly appreciates China's positive attitude and practical measures in promoting bilateral exchanges and cooperation and believes the broad prospect for the bilateral cooperation. Bahamas is ready to enhance cooperation with China in infrastructure construction and all the other fields. China has made positive contributions to addressing climate changes and Bahamas hopes that China could continue its support and help to the country. As the rotating chairmanship of the Caribbean Community, Bahamas is willing to further promote the relations and cooperation between the Caribbean Community and China for in-depth development.
