Xi Jinping Meets with Premier Campbell Newman of Queensland of Australia

On November 16 local time, President Xi Jinping met with Premier Campbell Newman of Queensland of Australia in Brisbane.

Xi Jinping pointed out that Queensland is an Australian state with strong economy and scientific research capability as well as rich culture and a new force for China-Australia cooperation. China is Queensland's largest trade partner, largest source of imports and largest export market. Both sides enjoy great cooperative potential. The Chinese side encourages more Chinese enterprises to participate in energy and mineral resource, agriculture and animal husbandry development and infrastructure construction in Queensland, give full play to the role of states/provinces and cities and expand exchanges and cooperation in culture, education, science and technology and other fields. It is hoped that Queensland plays a greater role in promoting the development of China-Australia relations.

Newman expressed that Queensland will be continuously committed to expanding exchanges with China and developing long-term and reliable partnership. They welcome Chinese investment and more Chinese citizens to study and travel in Queensland.

Wang Huning, Wang Yang, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others attended the meeting.

On the same day, Mme. Peng Liyuan, wife of President Xi Jinping, accompanied by Lisa, wife of Premier Newman of Queensland, visited the Queensland Museum. Peng Liyuan listened to the introduction of local folk culture, natural landscape and biological diversity and watched cultural relics of aborigines, specimens of rare animals and the marine showroom. She expressed her hope that both countries strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchanges and enhance friendship between the two peoples.
