Xi Jinping Meets with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore
2014/11/09

On November 9, 2014, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China-Singapore cooperation has been highly strategic, forward-looking and exemplary, and has always stood at the forefront of cooperation between China and the members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). We should unswervingly adhere to the overall direction of mutual trust, mutual benefit and mutual assistance, keep pace with the times, and better fit the cooperation to each other’s development strategy to yield more achievements. The two sides should promote the liberalization and facilitation of the bilateral trade, investment and service, and continue to build well the Suzhou Industrial Park and the Tianjin Eco-city. Modern service industry and connectivity are new themes of cooperation between the two governments. I hope that their promotion is accelerated, establishing an innovative-type cooperation platform in Western China featuring a high starting point and a high level. China supports Singapore in becoming a good coordinator between China and the ASEAN next year, and is willing to work together with Singapore to jointly push forward the initiatives of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, well construct the Asian Infrastructures Investment Bank (AIIB) along with other parties, and jointly build a closer China-ASEAN community of common destiny, so as to promote regional peace, stability and prosperity.

Lee Hsien Loong said that Singapore believes that chaired by President Xi Jinping, this Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Informal Leaders’ Meeting is bound to be a success. In the era of accelerating regional integration, Singapore is developing Singapore-China cooperation in a more active and more farsighted manner, acting in correspondence with the construction of “One Belt One Road”, and continuously innovating cooperation ideas and enriching cooperation connotations. Singapore is willing to well construct the Singapore-China free trade zone and take an active part in China’s Western Development. The AIIB is a good complement to the existing multilateral development institutions, and Singapore supports it with great strength. Singapore is willing to work with China to promote the healthy development of the ASEAN-China relations as well as safeguard regional peace and stability.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others were present at the meeting.
