Xi Jinping Meets with President Abdul Hamid of Bangladesh

On November 8, 2014, President Xi Jinping met with President Abdul Hamid of Bangladesh at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping welcomed Hamid to attend the Dialogue on Strengthening Connectivity Partnership in China. Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Bangladesh have nothing but friendship, trust and cooperation. The Chinese side appreciates Bangladesh's support in issues concerning China's core interests and will as always support Bangladesh in its efforts to safeguard independence and sovereignty and realize stability and development, so as to promote the closer bilateral comprehensive cooperative partnership to constantly score new results. The construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road will bring new opportunities to bilateral cooperation. Both sides should take the opportunity of celebrating the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship next year to strengthen cooperation in trade, agriculture, infrastructure construction, ocean and other fields and deepen traditional friendship. Bangladesh is China's important cooperative partner in South Asia and the Indian Ocean region. Both sides should jointly push forward the construction of the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor (BCIM). The Chinese side welcomes Bangladesh to join the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) as a founding member.

Hamid expressed that China is Bangladesh's time-tested friend and partner and Bangladesh appreciates the long-time support and assistance of the Chinese side. Bangladesh is committed to speeding up poverty alleviation and development and hopes to draw from China's successful experience, seize the chance brought by the construction of "One Belt One Road" and promote bilateral trade and connectivity. The Bangladeshi side hopes to work with the Chinese side in improving capability in addressing climate change and disaster prevention and control. The Bangladeshi side will continue to actively promote cooperation between the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation and China.
