Xi Jinping Meets with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of Pakistan

On November 8, 2014, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of Pakistan at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping extended welcome to Nawaz Sharif for his attendance of the Dialogue on Strengthening Connectivity Partnership in China.

Nawaz Sharif said that the Pakistani people are earnestly looking forward to an early state visit paid by President Xi Jinping just like family relatives calling upon each other. President Xi Jinping extended gratitude for this and expressed his willingness to pay a visit an an early date.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Pakistan are "iron friends" and all-weather partners of strategic cooperation. During President Mamnoon Hussain's successful visit to China this February, I, together with him, reached important consensus on deepening China-Pakistan strategic and cooperative partnership and forging the China-Pakistan community of shared destiny. China will continue to support Pakistan in developing economy and maintaining stability and development and back Pakistan in pushing forward its strategy in security in accordance with its national conditions. Both sides should intensify cooperation in security. China hopes that Pakistan could continue to take all effective measures to ensure the safety of Chinese people and institutions in Pakistan.

Xi Jinping noted that during my visits to Maldives, Sri Lanka and India this September, I was deeply impressed that all the South Asian countries, which are committed themselves to development, share broad prospects in their cooperation with China. China is ready to, together with the Pakistani side, make efforts in building the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, enhance cooperation in the preparations for the establishment of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) , jointly advance the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the Maritime Silk Road of the 21st Century, and play an exemplary role in boosting cooperation between China and South Asia. China is willing to work with Pakistan in promoting the peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan and supports Pakistan in improving relations with India, so as to jointly safeguard peace, stability and development in South Asia.

Nawaz Sharif said that Pakistan will, as always, firmly support China on all major issues, especially on those involving China's core interests since the enhancement of the strategic cooperation with China is a cornerstone for Pakistan's diplomatic policies. During his visit to China this time, both sides signed a series of cooperation agreements, which is of great significance in helping Pakistan solve energy problems and promote economic and social development and cements Pakistan's confidence in the bilateral cooperation. Pakistan hopes to actively participate in the construction of the "One Belt One Road" and boost strengthen cooperation with China in the field of infrastructure construction such as power, roads and ports. Pakistan will make every effort to ensure the safety of Chinese enterprises and personnel and continue cracking down on terrorist forces such as the East Turkistan Islamic Movement. Pakistan stands ready to, together with China, enhance communication and coordination on Afghan issue and other topics, take an active part in the activities related to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and maintain regional peace and stability together.
