Zhang Dejiang Meets with President President U Thein Sein of Myanmar

On November 8, 2014, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Zhang Dejiang met with President U Thein Sein of Myanmar at the Great Hall of the People.

Zhang Dejiang said that both China and Myanmar are standing at a key time of reforms and development. A sound development of China-Myanmar relations is of important and strategic significance to promote the development and stability of the two countries. Both sides should bear in mind the fundamental and long-term interests of the two peoples, firmly hold the right direction of the bilateral relations, push the China-Myanmar comprehensive strategic cooperation for more fruitful results, so as to better benefit the two peoples. China's National People's Congress stands ready to, together with Myanmar's parliament, comprehensively implement the memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cooperation, enhance friendly exchanges and boost exchanges of experience on governance and administration of state affairs, actively push forward China-Myanmar practical cooperation in various areas, and constantly enrich the connotation of China-Myanmar friendly relations, so as to make greater contributions to the sound and stable development of bilateral relationship.

U Thein Sein expressed that Myanmar attaches great importance to its relations with China and is grateful to China for its help and support. Myanmar is willing to expand mutually beneficial cooperation with China and promote the construction of the "One Belt One Road" together. Myanmar hopes that the legislative bodies of both countries could intensify communication and promote the bilateral relations for new progress.
