Xi Jinping Meets with President U Thein Sein of Myanmar

On November 8, 2014, President Xi Jinping met with President U Thein Sein of Myanmar at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping welcomed U Thein Sein to attend the Dialogue on Strengthening Connectivity Partnership in China. Xi Jinping pointed out that linked by rivers and mountains, both China and Myanmar are standing at a critical stage of national development and construction. We should proceed from a strategic height and a long-term perspective, firmly promote the China-Myanmar comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation and better serve respective development and stability. Both sides should expand exchanges between ruling parties, strengthen exchanges of experience in governance and administration of state affairs, integrate the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, promote cooperation projects on China-Myanmar connectivity, special economic zones and improvement of people's livelihood on the basis of equity and mutual benefit and promote bilateral people-to-people and cultural exchanges. The Chinese side welcomes Myanmar to join the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) as a founding member. The Chinese side hopes that Myanmar could achieve long-lasting peace in northern Myanmar through peace talks at an early date and stands ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Myanmar in the border region and promote prosperity and stability in the border region together .

U Thein Sein expressed that Myanmar cherishes the "Pawkphaw" friendship between Myanmar and China, appreciates the support given by the Chinese side, and is willing to work with the Chinese side to continue to strengthen inter-party, inter-government and people-to-people exchanges and cooperation, so as to constantly elevate the bilateral relations to new levels and pass down good-neighborly friendship from generation to generation. He invited President Xi Jinping to visit Myanmar at an early date. Myanmar appreciates and supports the Dialogue on Strengthening Connectivity Partnership held by the Chinese side. It is believed that this Dialogue will certainly facilitate the common development of countries in this region. As the rotating presidency of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Myanmar stands ready to make contributions to promoting the ASEAN-China relations.
